Located right off the 405 and 133 freeways, Bacchus is tucked in the corner of a SoCal medium sized shopping area. When I walked in, I was greeted by the friendly staff and warm, inviting environment. The space was expertly decorated with wine bottle adorned walls, all of them grouped by their style and type, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much seating there was to be offered. With a comfortably sized bar, they had not only a great selection of wines, but an amazing selection of craft beers by the bottle as well as on tap.
I sat at my table and was greeted by two menus: a one page selection of foods, and a three page, double sided wine and drink list. With over 300 wines by the bottle, there is something for everyone, at anytime! From a wide selection of craft beers, all types of wines from whites, reds, blends, and dessert wines, to non alcoholic drinks, and even a cigar list!
The food selection is remarkably diverse for being such a small kitchen. With no formal stove in the back, I will agree with their menu statement: "although small, the kitchen is quite ambitious"! They have a delicious list of starters, from mixed nuts, to lobster and Spanish chorizo fondue, to a build your own charcuterie menu! The charcuterie plate was enough to share with a friend, and with an extensive list of meats, cheeses, and other delectables, you are sure to find the right food to match your wine. They sport a salad, flatbread, and sandwich section, including their very own signature burger.
The small plate section was amazing, with brussels sprouts and pork belly tacos, I was pleased to experience not only a comfortable place to drink, but to nosh as well. But, you can't forget dessert, and they've definitely got you covered in the sweets department. My favorite part about their food menu was that it showcased their suggested wine pairings for each item. This included ports and dessert wines for their desserts as well - this feature alone showed how much they care about the enjoyment of your dining experience.
The demographic of the patrons were surprisingly varied, from young to old, well dressed to casual. A great wine and beer list, an ambitious, successful, and delicious dining selection, and welcoming staff with patrons of all types, Bacchus truly lives up to its motto: Wine, Dine, Social! So come on down, have a drink, a snack, a meal, a dessert, and if it's your style, have a cigar, only at Bacchus.
