KEMPT | TRADE, IRVINE
Melissa Sprout, cofounder of KEMPT likes things simple and she likes to get to the point when it comes to men’s hair. Her idea for a men’s salon came from observing the overwhelming salons filled with blowouts and highlights, archaic barber shops and discount chains. She wanted something that would be convenient, easy and comfortable for men to come and get a haircut. KEMPT, inspired by her husband and son, is a non salon for men at the TRADE community, where men can come in, get a haircut, relax and be in a refreshingly simple environment.
Hair has always been Melissa’s passion and after graduating from UC Irvine she enrolled and studied at Vidal Sassoon Academy in Santa Monica and then became a local at the Vidal Sassoon South Coast Plaza. She’s been in the industry for over 15 years perfecting cuts, blowouts and color. While working at Hampton Salon in Newport Beach, she fell in love with the discipline and craft of cutting and styling men’s hair. After realizing there wasn’t a great niche for men in and around Orange County Melissa realized her passion could turn into a business opportunity. She wanted to open a salon that just specialized in cutting men’s hair, no services for blowouts, highlights, cuts, mani’s, pedi’s or gossip, literally just men, hair, and scissors. KEMPT opened with her husband and son in mind, and her business philosophy is literally “to keep it simple”.
Melissa gives a lot of credit to her husband, Richard Sprout helping her form the idea of opening a non fussy men’s salon and is lucky to have him by her side. She loves the saying, “If you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to go far, go together.” With the partnership of her husband, she plans to go far with all the work she has done and will continue doing with KEMPT.
Melissa is excited to be part of the TRADE community and hopes to bring unique experiences as well as better service for the individuals in the Irvine community.
